Salon de helen buchholtz
"The Salon of Helen Buchholtz" revives and reinterprets the idea of "Salon" by focusing on the character of Helen Buchholtz, her family and activities, her entourage, her time, her home town of Esch-sur-Alzette and, above all, her music and the music of her time.
Christian Aschman: The design of Helen Buchholtz's Salon at the Bridderhaus is an opportunity for me to combine my passion for space, the urban environment, which is reflected in my photographs, and my fascination for art, objects, furniture and especially chairs, to create in this recently restored building, an ephemeral place, a place of life with a soul, not Helen Buchholtz's, but a place where she would surely have wanted to settle.
A space, where you want to linger, to sit down, to start a conversation or to read a few pages in a book.
Sitting on recently found chairs or in the sofa made by Eric Schumacher, for which the fashion designer Laurie Lamborelle designed the textiles. For the music room Laurie Lamborelle created curtains based on her own designs and personal embroideries, inspired by weaving techniques from around the world. Both antique and contemporary fabrics were transformed into a unique result.
A selection of artworks from the art collection of the City of Esch-sur-Alzette is also on display, as well as the story of Helen Buchholtz and photographs taken in the ruins of the former Buchholtz brewery cellars in Lallange.
